Douglas Gully Vineyard
The Douglas Gully vineyard was planted to Grenache in 1948. The soil is classic Maslin Sand from the Blewitt Springs subregion of McLaren Vale at 145 m in elevation. This vineyard is dry grown on bush vines resulting in concentrated dark brambly fruit with intensity and fine tannins.
Our goal with the winemaking is to reflect this unique site and the vintage conditions specific to the year the wine was made. As such, we handpick early in the morning, using a high proportion (50%) of whole bunch for the wild ferment. The wine is matured for 10 months in large format, neutral puncheons to showcase the vineyard's unique character. Unfined, unfiltered.
